AVIATION EXPLORATION
Activities feature aviation history, flight and exciting destinations.
SMALL SPACE, BIG EXPERIENCE
A dense and media-rich experience in a space as large as a newstand.
BUILT TO LAST
Operates 27/7 without any staffing in a busy airport Terminal.
PLAY BEFORE YOU FLY
JetBlue’s aviation-themed interactive play space at JFK’s Terminal 5i is designed to delight and educate children and adults with hands-on and digital activities, keeping them engaged and entertained while waiting to board their flights. Kids can test their memory at a digital concentration-style game, learn the basics of aviation by piloting a virtual plane and learn about aviation history along an illustrated timeline. Younger kids can engage with low-tech activities that promote fine motor skills, or if they need some quiet time, can curl up in a reading nook.
“We make travel with children child’s play. Whether it’s a much-anticipated family vacation, a journey to see family or a combined business/pleasure trip, we know you work hard to make it happen, so we work hard to make it enjoyable and memorable from the get-go.” -Jetblue Junior
OUR ROLE
Chris played the role of senior designer on this project, supervising a team of junior architectural, exhibit, graphic and interactive designers from the schematic phase to opening day.
He worked closely with the digital team at Unified Field to develop, test and implement several of the complex technology-based interactives. He coordinated closely with JetBlue Brand and Corporate Real Estate teams to maintain brand standards and ensure all elements of the design met code as well as JetBlue’s brand standards. On the construction side his role required that he partner with Gensler and Turner Construction to ensure that Showman Fabricators’ built elements would coordinate with the facility’s building systems.
The space operates unstaffed 24 hours a day, serving thousands of visitors per week.
